EP37: "A Healing Journey" Caroline Rasmussen
Caroline Rasmussen is in service, shining a light on the deep connection between our body, our brain and our consciousness. After a family experience challenged her to reconsider the career path she was in, she turned her life in a completely different direction, and through her own healing journey was compelled to support others.
This is a familiar story, where a person sitting comfortably in a place where they know they’re not in alignment with - but it’s oh so easy to remain in - gets their bottom handed to them by the universe, and gets kicked out of this once stale course. You see there’s no tricking our destiny, no clouding of our true path on this lifetime. Once the calling begins you’ll try your hardest to muffle it, but rest assured you’ll somehow, at some point - hop on.
Mind, body, spirit = oneness. I used to think of myself as a solid block of a human being, seeing my feelings and emotions as one dimensional and not really observing what they meant. Once I hit rock bottom and got spit out of my outdated course as well, I felt walls I had built around me crumble, and saw them slowly disintegrate through the work I was doing with myself - and thankfully - the support of others.
There are my parts Of me within me - the excited little girl that sees the world as a playground full of opportunity, she has no fear… theres also the 12 year old me, her world crumbling, and for the first time a sense of NOT belonging. There’s the rebel, who once she found her freedom threw all care to the wind - and of course the brat, who wants what she wants, when she wants it - even if it’s not the best of routes. But who’s in charge here? Well its ME, the mother, caring for all of these parts, holding them close, soothing them gently, Kindly guiding them and honoring their needs.
I encourage you to listen to the voices in your head (yes there are several in there don’t be scared), and ask them “what do you need”? You can do this out loud if you prefer, or pen to paper may be what you need. Once you get familiar with all of the parts of you that want to truly LIVR, you can make peace within and begin to.. yes, heal.
ABOUT CAROLINE
Founder Caroline Rasmussen's journey to creating Antara is truly inspiring; after her father's heartbreaking diagnosis of early-onset dementia and Parkinson’s, she was moved to quit her toxic Wall Street job and revisit her journey.
After relying for years on cigarettes, coffee, and other crutches to get through a cloud of anxiety and fatigue, Caroline set out to do everything she could to maintain her brain and cognitive function for the long term. This lead to her training in herbal medicine and meditation, and she later began to delve into the science of neurological health and degeneration. Through this research, she learned about the damaging effects of inflammation and stress on the brain - it turns out her burnout had not only been emotionally unpleasant, but had been actively undermining her brain function. This journey ultimately lead to the launch of Antara: products that marry both Western and Eastern philosophies in order to support brain health in a truly holistic and effective way. The formulas use centuries-old plant medicines known to enhance the health of the mind, and then amplify their effects with modern bioavailability technology.
Caroline is now a trained herbalist and member of the International Association of Counselors and Therapists focusing on meditation training, cognitive neuroscience and hypnosis.
A FAVORITE RITUAL
Meditation every morning - it keeps my emotions balanced and is my antidote to the mentality of always doing and having more that we're surrounding with in the city. Natural beauty as often as possible. Alone time to recharge, often in an infrared sauna or steam room - I always bring my own eucalyptus oil to make it even more relaxing. Also massages, I'm from Thailand where massages & energy balancing are a big part of daily life and wellness - I love Rhemedy by Rhed in the West Village.
A FAVORITE HEALING RECIPE
Gotu kola pesto - gotu kola is known as the 'herb of enlightenment' and is a highly respected consciousness enhancing plant in both Ayurveda and TCM. This recipe is a brain-boosting twist on traditional pesto that is great on pasta, vegetables, bread, really anything:
1/2 cup chopped fresh gotu kola or 1/4 cup gotu kola powder (the botanical name is centella asiatica, to avoid any confusion)
1/2 cup chopped fresh tulsi basil
3 cups chopped kale
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1/4 teaspoon fennel powder
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 mashed avocado
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1/2 cup olive oil
Simmer the ginger, pepper, salt and nuts in the 1/4 cup olive oil until fragrant, then add fennel, coriander and tulsi. Simmer two minutes, then add kale and gotu kola. Add a bit of water, cover and simmer until kale has softened. Let cool and then blend with remaining olive oil, avocado and lime.
